February 10, 2007
Senator Obama formally announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the 2008 presidential election. In his remarks he talked about his background, vision for the future, opposition to operations in Iraq, and the need for domestic policies that benefit a majority of Americans. Standing on the grounds of the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois where Abraham Lincoln delivered his “house divided” speech in 1858, he also invoked memories of Lincoln and challenged a new generation of Americans to help bridge political divisions and transform the nation.
Following his speech cameras followed Senator Obama as he greeted supporters in the croud.
